Extended Description

While many surgeons would feel uncomfortable performing astigmatic keratotomies at the slit lamp as a post op corneal adjustment with these relaxing incisions, Doctor Ike Ahmed makes a strong point as to how well it can be done in a facile and convenient manner for doctor and patient.

Testimonials

Steven G Safran, MD: “I’ve been doing slit lamp LRI’s for many years and find that they are safe, well tolerated, reliable, fast and really powerful for touching up outcomes in post operative situations ranging from months to years after cataract surgery. The Mastel Ahmed LRI Angle PHD II (short handle) offers exquisite control of all aspects of this procedure leading to better outcomes and better confidence when I offer this option than what I was used to previously using other diamonds. I already owned over a dozen short handled diamond blades for doing slit lamp LRI’s but after trying the Mastel blade I bought 2 of them and use them exclusively in my office because it was clear I could achieve better outcomes with those and that makes a real difference that patients and my staff are able to notice. Well worth the investment!”

Iqbal "Ike" K. Ahmed, MD: “Slit lamp AKs are a great way to touch-up small degrees of postoperative astigmatism. Firstly, we carefully designed a one-step marker with preset treatment zone and arcuate lengths to provide surgical guidance. The angled PhD blade is optimized for safe and efficient slit lamp arcuate incisions allowing the surgeon to twirl the handle while cutting in either direction with the protection of depth guard to prevents epithelial dragging. A diamond is ideal for smooth and controlled cuts. We have been very pleased with our results in our post-IOL patients, where small degrees of cylinder can degrade visual quality and acuity.”
