“I have used the Davis MD OneStep marker in combination with the Visual Axis Glasses for over three years. It has improved my precision and accuracy versus the multiple previous marking systems I have used previously. The Mastel system allows me to make both marks simultaneously on the desired final meridian. This eliminates the need to make a reference mark and then make a second mark (decreasing the chance of an error). I also feel the fine etch that is placed on the cornea helps me align the mark on the toric IOL more precisely. I routinely dry the cornea with the patient supine and find the etch mark is clearly visible against the red reflex.
The technique I have found most helpful is to then use a 25 gauge needle “painted” with a sterile marker to highlight the etch with a very fine line (when the cornea is dry). I had to use my previous two step marking system when another surgeon was utilizing my Davis MD OneStep premarker. I felt this was a significant step backwards and ordered a second marker that day.
The Davis MD OneStep premarker and Visual Axis Glasses are made with the precision and quality that we all have come to expect from Mastel.” – Saul Ullman, MD, Pensacola, FL
“I am able to reliably mark my final toric lens axis with the patient seated pre-operatively eliminating the need for a second step to mark intra-operatively. This not only eliminated potential for errors in 0 vs 180deg reference positioning, but it also absolved my nursing staff of any need to modify my instruments or usual flow during a case regardless if it was a toric lens case. The inkless system reliably maintains its marks for up to an hour allowing confident pre- marking – I no longer spend time searching for faded or lost marks. Finally the addition of a magnifying loupe with central fixation LED light gave my patients an excellent fixation target, while simultaneously providing me with a corneal light reflex centered on their visual axis and a magnified view to guide my approach… Read More.” – Devesh Varma, MD
