The Gimbel/Mendez Rings are a dual-purpose fixation and guide instruments designed for toric IOL’s, astigmatic keratotomy (AK), limbal relaxing incisions (LRI), and peripheral corneal relaxing incisions (PCRI). Designed with H.V. Gimbel, MD, of Calgary, Alberta, these instruments combine the original Thornton fixation ring with the Mendez gauge pattern.
Features
- Titanium/ceramic engraving with 5° precision and no glare.
- Peripheral fixation teeth to avoid corneal epithelial contact.
- Beveled edge slopes toward the cornea and hovers just above the surface.
- Minimal vertical interpolation of demarcations.
- Best used with corneal epithelial premarking, as scleral marks are concealed beneath the ring.
- Available in specialized configurations—including Gimbel/Mendez 90°, 0/180°, Gimbel/Mendez-Koch 135°, and Gimbel/Mendez Jarvi for LRI—with Bores or Thornton handle options.
